The Brunswick County Democratic Party is on a streak. Less than a month after its successful 2026 Election Kickoff event, another sellout crowd welcomed former Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper to Brunswick County.
Democrats and party supporters jammed BCDP headquarters in Bolivia to welcome the leading contender for North Carolina’s open U.S. Senate seat. And when a VIP like Cooper arrives for a speaking event, the press is sure to follow. Media in attendance included the Port City Daily, the State Port Pilot, and WECT News.
Cooper told his audience one of his goals as a senator will be to lower the cost of living for North Carolina families. Cooper was critical of the rising prices of essentials like food and fuel under the Republican regime. “Stuff just costs too much for people, right now,” he said, adding “We’ve got to give them some relief, we’ve got to do better. That’s why I’m running.”
The man who led the successful campaign to expand Medicaid for North Carolinians – giving 700,000 state more residents access to the program – also decried the inability of Republican majorities in the U.S. Congress to do anything about the growing cost of healthcare for all Americans. “We are the richest country in the world, we ought to find a way to make sure everybody has quality, affordable healthcare,” Cooper said. “I’m going to make that a guiding star when I get to the United States Senate.”
Cooper is running for U.S. Senate in an election year that will prove critical for the fate of our nation. “If Democrats are to have any hope of retaking the Senate this fall, then Roy Cooper, the former North Carolina governor, must flip the seat held by retiring GOP Sen. Thom Tillis, in one of the most anticipated races of the 2026 midterms.” (Mother Jones)
