African American Caucus of BCDP

Our Mission
The mission of the African American Caucus of Brunswick County Democratic Party is to promote political participation and education within the African American Community, encourage African Americans to seek public office, represent issues and concerns of its membership to the Democratic Party Leadership, and work towards strengthening the Democratic Party.
Our Goal
The African American Caucus will serve as a unified voice for the African American community by working to eliminate disparities and inequities faced by Black people. Ultimately, the goal of the caucus is to ensure that the unique challenges and historical disparities facing Black Americans are recognized and addressed through targeted policy and collective action.
Our Key Functions
Our focus will be on addressing specific needs and interests of the black community and ensuring equal access to county services, economic empowerment, and educational opportunities. The caucus will address these needs and interests by:
-
Providing a forum for members of the community to discuss problems, explore solutions, debate policy issues, and present a Black perspective to the wider community.
-
Community engagement: Hosting events, forums and town halls to engage the community in constructive dialogue, to address local issues (such as health equity, education justice, and community safety), and to uplift community stories.
-
Support and Networking: Offering a safe space for African Americans to connect, share best practices, gain emotional support and develop leadership skills to become more effective advocates for their community.
-
Promoting Representation: Working to elect more Black candidates to office and ensure representation on various boards and committees while encouraging general civic engagement and voter education.
-
Research and Education: Serving as a research and study group to generate data and inform both elected officials and the public on matters affecting Black residents.
