Press release: Brunswick County Democrats elect officers

PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release April 27, 2025

BRUNSWICK COUNTY DEMOCRATS ELECT OFFICERS

Delegates to the Brunswick County Democratic Party’s bi-annual convention unanimously elected Chair Shelley Allen to a second term. The convention was held last Saturday morning at the party’s headquarters in Bolivia.

The nearly 100 delegates in attendance also re-elected First Vice Chair Arthur Hill, Second Vice Chair Kristine Garrity, and Third Vice Chair Mike Rush to serve additional two-year terms. New to the BCDP leadership team is Acquinetta Beatty, who was elected secretary, also for a two-year term. Party Treasurer Vic Gallo, appointed by the executive leadership team, will continue in his post.

North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls, the convention’s keynote speaker, reminded delegates that decisions she and her fellow justices make profoundly affect our elections, education, and freedoms. She also briefed delegates on the status of the long-running refusal of Jefferson Griffin to admit defeat in his race to unseat NC Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs.

With their votes, delegates at last Saturday’s convention endorsed the progress Allen and her team have made over the past two years. “We’ve built upon the work of those who came before us and are establishing a solid path forward for Team Blue,” Allen said.

In noting there’s more work to be done, she expressed her appreciation for the confidence the convention attendees have placed in her fellow officers and her. “Teamwork defines us,” she said. “We’ll continue to prioritize service to Brunswick County residents while combating the efforts of Republicans at all levels of government to deny our nation’s citizens their basic constitutional rights and freedoms.”
