Remember when America was “Leader of the Free World?” Nobody says that anymore. Trump is destroying alliances built over 80 years. He slapped tariffs on Canada and Mexico because, he said, our trade deal with them “took advantage of the United States,” adding, “who would ever sign a thing like this?” Trump hopes you’ll forget that HE signed the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement in 2019, calling it “the largest, most significant, modern, and balanced trade agreement in history.”
Trump’s tariffs caused stock markets and retirement accounts to lose $5 trillion in three weeks. The Wall Street Journal calls it ‘the dumbest trade war in history.”
Trump’s betrayal of allies goes beyond reneging on trade deals he made. He betrayed Ukraine by cutting off arms and intelligence and siding with Russia. When our allies proposed a UN resolution condemning Russia’s invasion, Trump joined Russia and North Korea in voting “NO.” He’s threatening to take Greenland from Denmark by force, while begging them for eggs, which are at record highs! He’s trying to bully Canada into becoming a state.
Canada's prime minister called the U.S. “a country we can no longer trust.” British intelligence is “significantly rationing” what it shares with us so its sources won’t be blown by Trump’s subservience to Putin.
French senator Claude Malhuret said, “Trump’s message is that being his ally serves no purpose, because he will not defend you, he will impose more tariffs on you than on his enemies, and he will threaten to seize your territories, while supporting the dictators who invade you. Never in history has a president of the United States surrendered to the enemy. Never has one supported an aggressor against an ally.”
When the UN voted 161-1 to proclaim an International Day of Hope, only the U.S. voted “NO,” saying it “contains references to diversity, equity and inclusion.” Instead of leading the free world, Trump made America the place where hope is disappearing.
