When forecasts predicted bitter cold for Washington, Donald Trump considered moving the inauguration indoors. Trump called a showbiz friend for advice: “Kid Rock,” scheduled to perform at Trump’s Pre-Inauguration rally.
“Friday morning, I got a call from the president," Rock told Fox and Friends. "I’ve tried to leave him alone, he’s got a lot on his plate, I would think, right now. He called and he goes, ‘Did the Secret Service really tell you that you can’t use strippers?’” Rock replied, “No, sir, I was just joking around.” Trump asked, “What do you think about me moving the inauguration indoors?” Rock said, “I’m like – uhhhhh,” pointing at himself and recalling his reaction of confusion as the hosts laughed.
Trump moved the Inauguration to the Capitol Rotunda. His guests included the world’s three richest men: Elon Musk (SpaceX/Tesla), Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and Mark Zuckerburg (Facebook/Meta), plus the CEOs of Apple, Google and Tik-Tok.
As Supreme Court Justice John Roberts administered the Presidential Oath, Melania held up two Bibles: one given Trump by his mother, and the Lincoln Bible, used to take the oath in 1861.
Ignoring Melania’s two outstretched Bibles, Trump raised his right hand but kept his left dangling conspicuously at his side. In 2017, Trump swore on a Bible. Why not now?
Did the oldest President ever inaugurated simply forget to put his hand on the Bible? Imagine Republican reaction if Biden did that!
Was Trump ashamed to swear on a Bible inside the building his supporters desecrated with feces four years ago? Unlikely, because Trump shamelessly declared: “I was saved by God to make America great again.”
Later that day, Trump pardoned 1,500 Jan. 6 rioters and violated his oath with a “blatantly unconstitutional” Executive Order gutting the 14th Amendment’s birthright citizenship guarantee. Perhaps spurning the Bible was a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist’s way of saying he can violate the laws of both Man and God with impunity.
