Letter to the editor: Dr. Kimberly Hardy listens

We all know what happens when corporate money dominates politics: utilities write their own regulatory carve-outs, healthcare giants shape Medicaid rules, industries pollute our waters with no consequences, and developers steer growth policy while your pleas for help fall on deaf ears.

Big money opens doors in Brunswick County as well as in Washington, D.C. Once again, Brunswick County is the fastest growing county in NC and among the top 10 fastest growing in the country. Politicians who rely on corporations for campaign contributions aren’t eager to limit development.

That’s why it matters that David Rouzer has long relied on corporate PACs and industry-aligned donors. When a member of Congress like Rouzer is funded by the same corporations that spend millions lobbying our legislature (to the tune of $1.2 million in the last cycle), it’s fair to ask whose priorities he listens to. Ordinary citizens don’t have multimillion-dollar budgets or teams of lobbyists roaming the halls of power.

There is a better alternative for Brunswick County. Dr. Kimberly Hardy has built her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives around reducing corporate influence and strengthening accountability. Hardy is committed to delivering public policy shaped by voters, not by deep-pocketed corporate donors. Unlike Rouzer, Kimberly Hardy does not accept corporate donations.

Brunswick County deserves representation that answers to the people who live here. It’s time to insist on transparency, accountability, and a representative who can’t be bought.
