Trump appointed Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services and pledged to let him “go wild on health.” Mission accomplished. Kennedy fired Susan Monarez, Trump’s newly-appointed head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), because she wouldn’t back Kennedy’s anti-vaxx agenda and fire CDC officials who opposed it. Four senior CDC officials resigned, citing Kennedy’s political interference in their scientific work.
Monarez said she refused to “rubber-stamp reckless, unscientific directives” and accused Kennedy of “weaponizing public health for political gain.” In his resignation letter, Demetre Daskalakis, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said Kennedy’s policies “are designed to hurt rather than improve public health” and “threaten the lives of the youngest Americans.” Daskalakis added, “the firewall between science and ideology is completely broken down. I only see harm coming.”
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) called Monarez’ firing “evidence that politics are taking precedence over policy.” An outraged Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said Kennedy called Monarez “a public health expert with unimpeachable scientific credentials” just four weeks earlier.
Kennedy’s cousin Caroline (JFK’s daughter) called him a “predator” who encouraged family members to abuse drugs leading to their “addiction, illness and death while Bobby has gone on to misrepresent, lie and cheat his way through life. Bobby preys on the desperation of parents of sick children — vaccinating his own children while building a following by hypocritically discouraging other parents from vaccinating theirs.”
Kennedy’s promotion of anti-vaxx conspiracy theories was blamed for a 2019 outbreak of measles in Samoa that killed 83 people, mostly babies.
Kennedy says he suffered “brain fog” and “short-term memory” problems “caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died.” He pleaded guilty to heroin possession and admitted to a 14-year-long heroin addiction. He eats road kill and decapitated a whale for fun. You cannot trust him with your health.
