Trump's Tinkerbell, Brunswick Beacon

Wikipedia says, “Peter Pan, The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up” is about “a boastful, careless boy, forgetful and self-centered. He claims greatness, even when such claims are questionable.” Peter tells his audience that Tinkerbell is dying because people don’t believe in fairies. He asks them to save her by clapping to show they believe.

Like Peter, Trump is boastful, careless, forgetful and self-centered. He carelessly leaks classified information. He forgets when the Civil War ended. He boasts that he’s “better than Lincoln, better than Washington.” He even has his Tinkerbell.

Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu attacked Iran and embarrassed Trump by sabotaging Trump’s Iranian negotiations. That presented a problem for Trump: he could either look ridiculous, or claim his negotiations with Iran were a deception. Narcissists like Trump can’t bear to look ridiculous, so he said his negotiations were “a ruse.” It will be many years before American diplomacy regains credibility.

On June 22, American B-2 bombers scored a direct hit on Iran’s nuclear facilities with bunker-buster bombs. However, because the facilities were buried deep beneath a mountain, the Pentagon’s Defense Intelligence Agency assessed that Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was not destroyed, the centrifuges necessary to enrich uranium are largely “intact,” and Iran’s nuclear program was set back “maybe a few months, tops.” European intelligence agreed, and reported that Iran’s enriched uranium was moved before the bombings. America’s military performed flawlessly in executing Trump’s deeply-flawed plan.

Trump insists, without proof, that Iran’s nuclear program was “obliterated.” Trump desperately needs people to believe that, so they’ll forget he created this crisis by killing Obama’s nuclear inspection deal which, inspectors confirmed, Iran was complying with.

If Iran’s nuclear program wasn’t “obliterated,” Trump’s recklessness made another endless Middle East war even more likely. That’s why Trump is, illogically, investigating the leak of an assessment he claims doesn’t exist, while urging Americans to “celebrate” the bombings. Like Peter Pan, Trump is begging his audience to clap.
