The Brunswick County Democratic Party (BCDP) is urging residents to make sure they’re not on the “Griffin List.” Republican NC Supreme Court candidate Jefferson Griffin is still trying to toss out the votes of more than 65,000 legally registered voters in our state to overturn his losing election results.
After two recounts, Griffin fell short by 734 votes and was declared the loser in his bid to unseat state Supreme Court incumbent Allison Riggs. He filed protests over a targeted subset of ballots, claiming the voters who cast them were ineligible due to improper registration.
“The battle over this race has made pawns of select North Carolinians, who through no fault of their own could have their voices silenced,” said BCDP Chair Shelley Allen. “Judge Griffin’s claims are a straight-out fraud, filed by a poor loser who wants to game the system. He is shamelessly eroding the confidence North Carolinians have in the voting process.”
The contested votes, Allen noted, were cast during Early Voting and via absentee ballots. “However, votes cast by Republicans could also be discarded if Griffin has his way,” she stated. Notably, Republicans cast far more votes on Election Day than Democrats, and Griffin is not contesting Election Day ballots. “Even more egregiously, Griffin is now targeting the ballots of military service members — but only the ones who live in heavily Democratic counties. This is a classic case of a corrupt candidate and party cherry-picking their voters, vs. voters choosing them.”
Griffin’s list includes registered North Carolina residents who voted last November and who do not have their driver’s license number or last four of their Social Security numbers in Boards of Elections files. Griffin claims these voters are ineligible to vote. In truth, many of these voters have been legally registered for years and have voted in multiple elections without issue.
Allen urged Brunswick County residents to check the Griffin List to make sure their names are not on it. Residents are also encouraged to share the list with family or friends who voted in November. Voters whose names are on the list can contact the North Carolina Democratic Party at team@ncdp.org to share their story or contribute to the legal team that’s battling to preserve the integrity of the North Carolina electoral process.
Griffin’s court case to nullify the legitimate votes of 65,000 North Carolinians, including thousands of military who cast votes overseas, is currently moving through the court system, which has stayed Rigg’s already-certified victory pending court action.
