Letter to the editor: S.O.S.

61% of Americans think Trump is erratic. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu bragged about manipulating Trump, Letterwho blew up on-going negotiations and attacked Iran twice within nine months. Netanyahu told Trump Iranians would overthrow their own government. C.I.A. director Ratcliffe called that “farcical.”

Gen. Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, called it typical of Israel — “They oversell, and their plans are not always well-developed.”

V.P. Vance called war with Iran “a huge distraction of resources.” Vance told Trump, “This is a bad idea” — warning of regional chaos, untold casualties, depleted munitions and Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump ignored the warnings, which all came true.

Nostalgic 80-year-olds are usually harmless. Not Trump, who asked, “Why aren’t we doing battleships like we used to? You know, the old-fashioned, beautiful battleships?”

Our last battleship, the U.S.S. Missouri, was ordered in 1940 — before we entered WWII. In today’s age of missiles and drones, they’re obsolete. Still, Trump ordered a “Golden Fleet” of 15 “Trump Class Battleships” costing $275 billion.

Trump hates the “look” of modern aircraft carriers. He prefers WWII carriers, whose command towers sit further forward, and wants the Navy to move them. Experts say the cost would be “extraordinary” and the change “disruptive.”

The U.S. and China launch carrier-based aircraft with state-of-the-art magnetic catapults, which require fewer personnel and less maintenance. Trump ordered the Navy to bring back ‘old-fashioned’ steam because, he said, “all I know about magnets is this, give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets, that’s the end of the magnets.” It isn’t.

Trump’s erratic decisions, like curtailing naval exercises with ally South Korea to appease Communist North Korea, endanger national security.

The cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment and replace Trump with Vance. They won’t unless you send an S.O.S. Elect Democrats in November! Defeating Republicans is the best way to get the cabinet to change skippers and turn this ship around.
