Letter to the editor: Hardy denounces Rouzer's needless war

First published in the Brunswick Beacon, 04.02.26

Just one in four Americans supports this war, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. Rep. David Rouzer doesn’t care. He’s wanted it for years.

We weren’t at war with Iraq or Iran in 2020, when Trump’s drone strike killed an Iranian General and nine others in Iraq. The U.N. declared the killings unlawful. Iraq issued an arrest warrant against Trump for murder.

A bipartisan Congress passed a War Powers Resolution to stop Trump from attacking Iran without congressional authorization, as required by the U.S. Constitution. Rouzer voted “NO.”

In Feb. 2024, Rouzer told the Port City Daily that “firing off a missile here or there” against Iran wasn’t enough, adding: “I think it needs to be substantial in a way that Iran really feels it.”

In Feb. 2026, Rouzer’s wish came true. Trump blew up ongoing negotiations and launched a surprise attack with Israel against Iran. Rouzer thanked Trump and tried to justify the attack with lies.

On March 5, Rouzer told WECT that Iran is “right on the cusp of having nuclear weapons.” In his March 9 newsletter, Rouzer said, “Iran’s growing nuclear capabilities present an imminent and dire threat. The countdown clock was ticking. While Operation Midnight Hammer [Trump’s 2025 attacks] took out much of their capability, the Iranians were continuing to pursue a nuclear weapon and growing closer by the day.”

None of that is true. National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned, saying, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war. Iran posed no imminent threat.”

Trump’s Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified in a March 18 Senate Intelligence Committee hearing that the 2025 bombings “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear enrichment program, adding, “There have been no efforts since then to rebuild their enrichment capability.”

Dr. Kimberly Hardy, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House, says, “We cannot afford another endless war. Not in lives. Not in dollars. Not in moral cost.”

Reject Rouzer’s lies. Reject needless wars. Elect Kimberly Hardy on Nov. 3.
