In our opinion: I voted; now what?

If you’re reading our Midterm Election newsletter before Tuesday, November 3, you know only days remain in this year’s all-important mid-term elections. And because our readers are among our most dedicated Democrats, you’ve probably already voted. Thank you for that.
Now that you have joined thousands of your fellow early-voting citizens, the Brunswick County Democratic Party has one more ask: Will you contact friends and family who share your political views to make sure they also have voted – or if they haven’t, to let them know time’s a-wasting? (By the way, Early Voting ends at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. The polls will not open again until Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.)
We need all the votes we can get because sadly, not everyone is a Democrat. We need to send Roy Cooper and Kimberly Hardy to Washington to build our numbers in Congress and help fellow Democrats. Only then can we overwhelm the stifling MAGA cult by passing laws designed to protect the rights of all citizens, break up the cabal of oligarchs who are destroying our democracy and end the corruption that defines the Trump presidency.
We need all the votes we can get to elect Rick Combes, Scott Nasiff and Dennis Breen to the General Assembly. They will help pass new laws that reflect the views of middle-class residents and not the special interests, whose lobbyists regularly pack the halls of the state capital.
We need all the votes we can get to re-elect Anita Earls to the state Supreme Court – and John Arrowood, Toby Hampson and Christine Walczyk to the Court of Appeals – to make sure the rights of all North Carolinians are protected from the abuses of the MAGA-fueled General Assembly over the past decade.
We need all the votes we can get to elect Sara Singer and Gary Woods to the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners, because we know they will press for clean water and growth policies designed to protect the environment and all county residents – not the developers.
And we need all the votes we can get to elect Susanne Duncan and Brian Rupp to the Brunswick County School Board, so our children get a first-rate education at first-rate schools, and teachers get the help they deserve to make us proud again.
We’re encouraged by what we’ve seen so far in the early-voting period. But we’ve been down this road before, and we understand the effort that’s needed by the electorate – and by each of you – to get the right people into public office. In the time that’s left between now and Election DAy, we need you to campaign for Democratic candidates like your hair is on fire. Our great slate of Democratic candidates has only your best interests at heart. We promise they’ll serve you well in the years to come, making your efforts up to Election Day more productive and rewarding.
