On Thursday March 26, we unexpectedly lost one of our most beloved and dedicated members, Emma Myles.
Emma was our rock in the Southport 2 precinct, serving as chair there for many years. She was also the co-president of the Brunswick County Democratic Women (BCDW) during the previous term of office.
She always showed up for the Brunswick County Democratic Party and for her community. Emma missed little and did much, from tirelessly poll greeting during elections, to registering voters during Southport's Juneteenth celebrations, to diligently attending BCDP and BCDW meetings and events. And, she always brought her kindness, sense of humor, and gentle smile with her.
From Gene Perrotta, Southport Precinct 2 vice chair: “Recently Emma sat with me and my wife to greet voters at the February, 2026 primary election. She discussed her dedication to the process, and the importance of being there not only on behalf of the Democratic Party, but also for her neighbors, having lived in Southport most of her life. She has been a librarian, a member of the Library Board, a member of the Brunswick County NAACP, an active member the First Baptist Church in Southport, and numerous other working committees. She was given the NAACP Community Service Award in 2022, 'for her generous talents and time, [as someone who brought] life and light to several community endeavors….' We who live in Southport Precinct 2 will especially miss her.”
The Democratic Party in Brunswick County owes much to Emma Myles for strides made in our county, especially regarding African American social, political and cultural issues that she championed in Southport and beyond. She will be deeply missed.
There will be a celebration of life for Emma on Saturday, April 4, 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 1705 Southport Supply RD SE, Bolivia. Obituary
