The golf gods were shining on the Brunswick County Democrats on May 19th as they defied the meteorologists and had an excellent day for golf. A sold-out field of 128 players participated in the state’s most popular democratic golf tournament at Carolina National in Bolivia.
Along with a record-breaking raffle drawing (428 tickets sold, $8560 total!), the outing was the largest fundraising event in BCDP history. We netted over $13,000. The first prize raffle winner received $2140 (2nd prize won $1284 and 3rd prize won $856)! Those who sold raffle tickets and donated prizes were a huge part of this success story.
We were delighted to hear from Braxton Winston (candidate for NC Commissioner of Labor) and Chair Jill Hopman (New Hanover Co. Dem Party) during the luncheon. NCDP Chair Anderson Clayton was scheduled to appear as well, but since Saturday’s Farm Fest was postponed, she decided it was best to spend Sunday canvassing with her dad in Person County — given she’s the one who convinced him to run for commissioner there!
Thank you to Tournament Director Mark Allen, Director Emeritus Neil Gilbert, Emcee Frank Herzog, and the rest of the fantastic golf committee and volunteers for all the work you put into raising funds for our party this year!
