A tipping point? Brunswick County Democrats break records in historic anti-authoritarian demonstration

ree

On October 18, more than seven million people attending 2,700 events across America raised their voices to peacefully protest the Trump Administration’s overreach and corruption. But few matched the enthusiasm, energy and support of the 2,000 resisters who participated in a demonstration sponsored by the Brunswick County Democratic Party in downtown Shallotte, NC. While the Shallotte Police Department was on hand to professionally ensure the safety of all, peaceable dissent was the order of the day.

People waving signs, straining their vocal cords, and cheerfully wearing costumes weren’t the only folks backing BCDP and its allies in its most successful turnout of the year. Judging by the number of supporters who put their horns to work as they drove through the protester-lined intersection of Main St. and Smith Ave., many more share Democrats’ concerns about the direction the Trump Administration and his cronies want to take the U.S.

The boisterous assembly in Shallotte mirrored events across the country. From Washington, DC, to Price, Utah, concerned citizens turned out to express their views peacefully but forcibly. “While the GOP in Washington shutters the government and the MAGA majority in Raleigh fails to pass a budget, we’re inviting Americans to elect Democrats who will promote policies of well-being, equality, honesty and fairness,” BCDP Chair Shelley Allen said.

“We’ve reached a tipping point,” Allen continued. “The pressure to stop the excess, the unlawfulness and the outright corruption of the Republican Party is growing each day. Democrats across the country, and especially here in Brunswick County, are continuing to step up their defense of freedom and democracy. Their conviction and dedication are overwhelming and will continue to grow until the corrupt Trump regime is voted out of office.”
