Every gift fuels the fight for Democracy.

A message from our BCDP Chair and our Fundraising Chair

BCDP continues to grow our party, connections, and influence to improve the quality of life of the people in our county and state. As you reflect on the results of the 2024 election, consider how you can effect change. We ask you to stay involved — or get more involved — with our organization.

Fundraising remains a key component of our efforts. In 2024, for the first time, BCDP donated $500 to every local candidate (for Brunswick County, NC General Assembly, and U.S. Congress), plus $400 to candidates who purchased yard signs. Providing a modest financial boost helped our local contenders, most of them first-timers, get their names and messages out to the public.

Similarly, BCDP used donations to get out the vote up and down the ballot with candidate flyers, blue ballots, festival booths, meet-and-greet venue rentals, billboards, banners, postcards, party T-shirts, and more. Donations maintained our headquarters as a staging ground for canvassing and phone banking, as well as for meetings, candidate rallies, and greeting the public. Governor Josh Stein, who won Brunswick County, came here twice: 100 people attended a morning coffee at our HQ in 2023, and over 320 attended a rally in Leland, spearheaded by BCDP, in 2024.

Although our local candidates did not win in 2024, their collective candidacies were a big wake-up call to Republican incumbents, a morale boost to Democrats and Democratic-leaning allies, and proof that we can make headway in traditionally conservative Brunswick County.

We must persist in showing prospective Democratic candidates that BCDP will support them with a strong infrastructure of messaging assets, volunteers, and financial assistance. This will help us continue to recruit quality candidates and improve our chances of getting them elected. We believe money should not be a barrier to running for anyone with the dedication, passion, and willingness to learn about the issues relevant to Brunswick County constituencies. It’s a tough climb, but 2024 showed we’re moving in the right direction. A big thank you to all who ran, and to all who supported them by volunteering, donating, or both!

So, here’s our donation request. We’ve grown from approximately 500 newsletter subscribers in 2021 to more than 3000 today. If our subscribers alone gave a recurring contribution of $5 a month starting in September (or a quarterly donation of $20), we would go into the 2026 Midterm Elections with $60,000 to support our candidates!

We’re asking you to make a $5-a-month/$20 quarterly investment in the BCDP and our future candidates. If you’re already contributing the equivalent or more, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We’re ready to continue the critical work of electing more Democrats in this county, state, and country. Please join us.
